Dragon Age: Requiem
There have been many wars and battles in the Brecilian Forest, many of which were between the elves and Tevinter mages (though this is not to say that barbarians fighting the Tevinters in days past didn’t spill into this region as well). The death of so many supposedly tore the Veil, which separates the Fade and the real world. Its sinister air, and possessed flora, have led to many (and somewhat true) rumors and stories behind the ancient woods. The Brecilian Forest incorporates the forest itself as well as the entrances to many ancient ruins.
The existence of the elves in the forest goes far in time, even before the time of Arlathan. Since the events of the Fifth Blight, the forest lands have been awarded to the Dalish as a land of their own. Many in the nation of Ferelden protest this fact, but still the King remains firm on his decision. Ferelden still maintains control of some vital locations through the Brecilian, such as Gwaren and Dragon’s Peak.
